Vintage Crocheted Woven Sandals #542

Quick & easy to crochet these charming sandals with the contrasting pattern…smart & stylish lines…summer wardrobe favorites!

SIZES: 
Small [3-4], Medium [5-6-7], & Large [8-9]. 
Directions are given for Medium, with changes for Small & Large in brackets.

MATERIALS: 
American Thread Co Star Cotton Yarn, 100 yd skein, 2 Black [B] & 1 Red [R]
#00 Steel Crochet Hook
1 Pair Inner Soles

SOLES:  [MAKE 4]: 
With B, ch 32, [28, 36], 2 hdc in 2nd ch from hook, 2 hdc in next st of ch, 1 hdc in each of next 27 sts, [23, 31] 2 hdc in next st, 3 hdc in end ch, working on other side of ch, work 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in each of next 27 sts, [21, 31] 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in same sp with 1st 2 sts, join in 1st hdc.

2ND ROW:  Ch 2, [counts as 1 hdc] hdc in same sp, 2 hdc in each of next 2 hdc, 1 hdc in each of next 29 sts, [25, 33] 2 hdc in each of next 5 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 29 sts, [25, 33] 2 hdc in each of next 2 sts, join.

3RD ROW:  Ch 3, [counts as 1 dc] dc in same sp, 2 dc in each of next 4 sts, 1 dc in each of next 16 sts, [14, 19] 1 hdc in each of next 15 sts [13, 17] 2 hdc in next st, * 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, rep from * twice, 1 hdc in each of next 15 sts, [13,17] 1 dc in each of next 16 sts, [14, 19] 2 dc in each rem st, join.

4TH ROW:  Ch 3, dc in same sp, * 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, rep from * twice, 1 dc in each of next 13 sts, [11, 15] 1 hdc in each of next 23 sts, [21, 25] 2 hdc in next st, * 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, rep from * 3 times, 1 hdc in each of next 23 sts, [21, 25] 1 dc in each of next 13 sts, [11, 15] 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, join, break yarn.

Place inner sole bet 2 sections & with R overcast sections tog, picking up 1 loop of st.

Small & medium size are worked in same manner. 

Large size is given in brackets.

UPPER SECTION: 
With B, ch 16, dc in 6th st from hook, * ch 1, sk 1 st of ch, dc in next st, rep from *, ch 3, dc in same st, * ch 1, sk 1 st of ch, dc in next st, rep from * twice, ch 1, turn.

2ND ROW:  Sc in same sp, * ch 1, sc in next dc, rep from 8 twice, ch 1, sc in center st of ch 3 loop, ch 1, sc in next dc, rep from * twice, ch 1, sk 1 st of end ch, sc in next st, break yarn & pick up R, [when changing color, always complete last half of st with next color.]

3RD ROW:  Ch 3, dc in next sc, * ch 1, dc in next sc, rep from * twice, ch 3, dc in same sp, * ch 1, dc in next dc, rep from * 3 times, turn.

4TH ROW:  Ch 1, sc in same sp, * ch 1, sc in next dc, rep from * 3 times, ch 1, sc in
center st of ch 3 loop, * ch 1, sc in next dc, rep from * 3 times, ch 1, sk 1 st of end ch, sc in next st, ch 3, turn.

5TH ROW:  Work same as 3rd row, break yarn, pick up B.

6TH ROW:  Work same as 4th row, omit ch at end of row, break yarn & pick up R.

7TH ROW:  Ch 1, sc in same sp, 8 ch 1, sc in next sc, rep from * across row, end row with ch 1, sk 1 st of end ch, sc in next st, turn, break yarn & pick up B.

8TH ROW:  Work same as 7th row, break yarn & * pick up R.

9TH THRU 11TH ROWS:  Work same as 3rd, 4th & 5th rows, break yarn & pick up B.

12TH & 13TH ROWS:  Work same as 4th & 3rd rows, break yarn & pick up R.  [Rep 12th & 13th rows.]

14TH ROW:  Ch 1, sl st in next sc, rep from * 7 times, ch 1, sl st in center st of ch 3 loop, ch 1, sl st in next sc, rep from * to end of row, break yarn.

The patt is darned in working 3 rows thru each dc mesh & 1 row thru each sc mesh.
In dc meshes work 1st row over 1 dc & under next dc reversing over & under in 2nd row.

Start at narrow end, darn 3 rows B in dc meshes, 1 row R in sc meshes, 3 rows R in dc meshes, 1 row B in sc meshes, 3 rows R in dc meshes, sk next 3 rows of sc meshes, 3 rows R in dc meshes, 1 row B in sc meshes, 3 rows R in dc meshes, 1 row R in sc meshes, 3 rows B in dc mesh. [1 row B in sc meshes, 3 rows B in dc meshes.]

HEEL STRAP: 
With R, ch 40, break yarn, & attach B.

1ST ROW:  Sc in 2nd st from hook, * ch 1, sk 1 st of ch, sc in next st, rep from * across row, break yarn & pick up R.

2ND ROW:  Ch 1, sc in same sp, * ch 1, sc in next sc, rep from * 3 times, ch 1, sc in same sp, * ch 1, sc in next sc, rep from * 10 times, ch 1, sc in same sp, * ch 1, sc in next sc, rep from * 3 times, break yarn & pick up B.

3RD ROW:  Ch 1, sc in same sp, * ch 1, sc in next sc, rep from * 3 times, ch 1, sc in next ch 1 loop, sc in same sp, * ch 1, sc in next sc, rep from * 11 times, ch 1, sc in next ch 1 loop, ch 1, sc in same sp * ch 1, sc in next sc, rep from * to end of row, break yarn, pick up R.

4TH ROW:  Ch 2, sl st in next sc, * ch 1, sl st in next sc, rep from * across row.

Sew upper sections to soles, leave 11 free sts at toe.

Sew heel strap to sole, leave approx 22 free sts at heel.

TIES: 
Take two 2 yd length of B yarn, twist tightly, hold both ends tog, allow it to twist to thru center, knot one end to prevent untwisting.

Lace in sandal as shown in photo, & knot other end.
