Vintage 1951 Vogue Openwork Details on Pullover & Cap Set #B-130

An updated classic pullover set with an openwork traingle design around the neck line & bordering the cap.  The sweater has button closures at each shoulder for easy wear.

SIZE:
Directions are for size 2

MATERIALS:
Minerva Nylon Sweater & Sock Yarn, 1 oz balls:
PULLOVER:  3  balls
CAP:  1 ball
Pair Knitting Needles #2
3 Buttons

GAUGE:
8 sts = 1”

PULLOVER:
BACK:
Cast on 84 sts.

Work in k 2, p 2 ribbing for 1”.

Change to stockinette st.

Work even until 7” from beg.

SHAPE ARMHOLES:
Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows – 76 sts.

Work even until armholes are 2”.

TRIANGLE PATTERN:
1ST ROW:  [RIGHT SIDE]:  K 10, * yo, k 2 tog, k 16; rep from * twice more, yo, k 2 tog, k 10.

2ND & ALL EVEN ROWS:  P.

3RD ROW:  K 9, * [yo, k 2 tog] twice, k 14; rep from * twice more, [yo, k 2 tog] twice, k 9.

5TH ROW:  K 8, * [yo, k 2 tog] 3 times, k 12; rep from * twice more, [yo, k 2 tog] 3 times, k 8.

7TH ROW:  K 7, * [yo, k 2 tog] 4 times, k 10; rep from * twice more, [yo, k 2 tog] 4 times, k 7.

9TH ROW:  K 6, * [yo, k 2 tog] 5 times, k 8; rep from * twice more, [yo, k 2 tog] 5 times, k 6.

11TH ROW:  K 5, * [yo, k 2 tog] 6 times, k 6; rep from * twice more, [yo, k 2 tog] 6 times, k 5.

13TH ROW:  K 4, * [yo, k 2 tog] 7 times, k 4; rep from * twice more, [yo, k 2 tog] 7 times, k 4.

15TH ROW:  K 3, * [yo, k 2 tog] 8 times, k 2; rep from * twice more, ]yo, k 2 tog] 8 times, k 3.

17TH ROW:  K 2, * yo, k 2 tog; rep from * across, end k 2.

18TH TO 24TH ROWS:  K [garter st border].  Bind off.


FRONT:
Work as for back until armhole shaping is completed.

Work even for 2 rows.

TRIANGLE PATTERNS:
1ST ROW:  K 28, yo, k 2 tog, k 16, yo, k 2 tog, k 28.

2ND ROW:  P.

3RD ROW:  K 27 [yo, k 2 tog] twice, k 14 [yo, k 2 tog] twice, k 27.

4TH ROW:  P.

Cont to work these 2 centre triangle patts as for back until 17 rows are worked.

NEXT ROW:  P 20, k 36 [garter st neck border], p 20.

TRANGLE PATTERNS FOR SHOULDERS:
1ST ROW:  K 10, yo, k 2 tog, k 52, yo, k 2 tog, k 10.

2ND ROW:  P 20, k 36, p 20.

3RD ROW:  K 9, [yo, k 2 tog] twice, k 50, [yo, k 2 tog] twice, k 9.

4TH ROW:  P 20, k 36, p 20.

Cont to work 1 patt on each shoulder; at same time, on 7TH ROW, SHAPE NECK:
Work across 26 sts, sl sts on holder; bind off.  24 sts for neck; work across.

Working on one side only, cont border & patt until triangle has been completed.

Work in garter st for 7 rows.  Bind off.

Work other side to correspond.

Sew shoulder seams for 1” from arm edge.

SLEEVES:
With right side facing you, pick up 68 st around entire armhole.

P 1 row.

TRIANGLE PATTERN:
1ST ROW:  K 25, [yo, k 2 tog] 9 times, k 25.

2ND & ALL EVEN ROWS:  P.

3RD ROW:  K 26 [yo, k 2 tog] 8 times, k 26.

5TH ROW:  K 27 [yo, k 2 tog] 7 times, k 27.

7TH ROW:  K 28 [yo, k 2 tog] 6 times, k 28.

9TH ROW:  K 29, [yo, k 2 tog] 5 times, k 29.

11TH ROW:  K 30 [yo, k 2 tog] 4 times, k 30.

13TH ROW:  K 31, [yo, k 2 tog] 3 times, k 31.

15TH ROW:  K 32, [yo, k 2 tog] twice, k 32.

17TH ROW:  K 33, yo, k 2 tog, k 33.

18TH ROW:  P.

Change to stockinette st.

Work even for 4”.

NEXT ROW:  * K 1, k 2 tog; rep from * across [22 sts dec].

Change to k 2, p 2 ribbing.

Work even for 1”.  Bind off.

FINISHING:
Sew underarm & sleeve seams.

Work 1 buttonloop on each shoulder at neck edge.

Sew on buttons.

CAP:
Starting at front edge, cast on 96 sts.

Work in k 2, p 2 ribbing for ¾”.

TRIANGLE PATTERNS:
1ST ROW:  [RIGHT SIDE]:  K 3, * yo, k 2 tog; rep from * across, end k 3.

2ND & ALL EVEN ROWS:  P.
3RD ROW:  K 4, * [yo, k 2 tog] 8 times, k 2; rep from * 3 times more, [yo, k 2 tog] 8 times, k 4.

5TH ROW:  K 5, * [yo, k 2 tog] 7 times, k 4; rep from * 3 times more, [yo, k 2 tog] 7 times, k 5.

Cont as for sleeves until triangles have been completed.

Change to stockinette st.

Work even until 5” from beg.

Bind off 31 sts at beg of each of next 2 rows [34 sts].

BACK:
Work even until 7 ½” from beg.

DEC ROW:  K 4, k 2 tog, k 22, sl, k & pass, k 4.

P 1 row.

Cont to dec 1 st each end every other row, having 2 sts less bet decs on each dec row, 5 times more.

Work even until 9” from beg.  Bind off.

FINISHING:
Sew seams, joining sides of back to 31 bound-off sts of front.

NECKBAND:
With right side facing you, pick up & k 76 sts across neck edge, casting on 15 sts for strap.

Keeping the 15 strap sts in garter st, work rem sts in k 2, p 2 ribbing for ¾”.  Bind off.

Make buttonloop at end of strap.

Sew on button.
