Vintage 1946 Classic Diamond Clutch #249

Quick & easy to create, this elegant, envelope handbag in a delightful diamond pattern will become a seasonal favorite!

SIZE: 
Approximately 12” by 8”.

MATERIALS: 
Bucilla Strawkraft or Fleisher’s Straw-Twist, 4 balls
#3 Steel Crochet Hook                                
Buckram & Lining Material
Zipper

GAUGE: 
13 sts = 2”:    
6 rows = 1”

BAG:
Ch 82, 1 sc in 2nd & each rem st of ch;  81 sts.

NOTE:  Work sc in front loop of all sts.

2ND ROW:  Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st. 

Rep 2nd row 6 times.

PATTERN [PATT]: 
RIGHT SIDE:  Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of 8 sts, * 1 dc in free loop of next st in 2nd row below, sk st behind dc, work 1 sc in each of next 7 sts; rep from * 8 times, end 1 sc in each of last 8 sts.

2ND & ALL EVEN NUMBERED ROWS:  Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st.

3RD ROW:  Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of 9 sts, * 1 dc in free loop of next st in 2nd row below, always sk st behind dc, 1 sc in each of 5 sts, 1 dc in free loop of next st in 2nd row below, 1 sc in next st; rep from * 7 times, end 1 sc in each of last 9 sts.

5TH ROW:  Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of 10 sts, 1 dc in 2nd row below, * 1 sc in each of 3 sts, 1 dc in 2nd row below; rep from * 14 times, 1 sc in each of 10 sts.

7TH ROW:  Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of 11 sts, * 1 dc in 2nd row below, 1 sc in next st, 1 dc in 2nd row below, 1 sc in each of 5 sts; rep from * 7 times, end 1 sc in each of 11 sts.

9TH ROW:  Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of 12 sts, * 1 dc in 2nd row below, 1 sc in each of 7 sts; rep from * 7 times, end 1 sc in each of 12 sts.

11TH ROW:  Same as 7th row.

13TH ROW:  Same as 5th row.

15TH ROW:  Same as 3rd row.

16TH ROW:  Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st. 

Rep these 16 rows of patt once.

33RD ROW:  Same as first patt row. 

Work 27 rows sc.

Rep the 33 rows of patt once.

Work 7 rows sc.  Fasten off.

GUSSETS [MAKE 2]: 
Ch 12, 1 sc in 2nd & each rem st of ch; 11 sts. 

Work in front loop of all sts, work sc until 8”.  Fasten off.

FINISHING: 
Steam. 

Fold bag & sew in gussets allow sides of bag to extend 2 rows beyond side edges of gussets.

LINE BAG: 
Cut buckram [for stiffening] ¼” smaller than bag on all sides; cover with lining & sew into bag with openings matching.

ZIPPER PULL TAB: 
Ch 11, work 2 rows sc on 10 sts.  Fasten off. 

Attach ornament to zipper pull with this piece.
