Vintage 1940s Sleeveless Bolero & Turbanette #175 - Crochet

Crochet this quick & easy classic bolero & turbanette for every day & special occasions. You’ll find this a welcome addition to your wardrobe…one you’ll want to wear through most seasons of the year.

SIZE:  14 - 16

MATERIALS:
FOR BOLERO: 
American Thread Company “Dawn” Saxony yarn, 3 balls
FOR TURBANETTE: 
American Thread Company “Dawn” Saxony yarn, 1 ball each of white and any contrasting color
1 Bone Crochet Hook #1

GAUGE: 
About 3 patterns = 1 inch;
7 rows = 1 inch.

SLEEVELESS BOLERO:  BACK: 
Ch 147, sc in 2nd st from hook, * ch 2, sk 2 sts, sc in next st, rep from * to end of row ending row with 2 sc [48 patts, about 15 ins].

2nd row:  Ch 1, sc in sc, * ch 2, sc in next 2 ch loop, rep from * to end of row ending row with 1 sc in last sc. 

Repeat 2nd row until back measures 5 ins.

Next row:  Dec 3 patts each side, work 1 row even then dec 1 patt each side every other row 3 times. 

Continue even until work measures 7 ins from 1st dec point.

Next 6 rows:  Dec 4 patts at end of each row.

FRONTS: 
Ch 81 for 26 patts and work same as back until front measures 5 ins.

Next row:  Dec 2 patts at underarm, work 1 row even then dec 1 patt at underarm every other row 3 times. 

Work even until armhole measures 7 ins from 1st dec point.

Next row:  Dec 9 patts at neck, work 4 rows even, then dec 4 meshes at shoulder every other row 3 times.

Sew shoulder and underarm seams. 

Work 5 rows of sc around fronts, lower edge and armholes and finish neck with 2 rows of sc.

TURBANETTE:  BAND: 
With color ch 30, dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each remaining
st, ch 3, turn.

2nd row:  Dc in 2nd dc, * draw up a 3/8 in loop on hook, thread over and pull through loop, sc in single loop of st, skip 2 dc, dc in next st, rep from * ending row with 2 dc, ch 3, turn. 

3rd row:  Dc in dc, knot st, dc in next dc, rep from * ending row with 2 dc.

Repeat 3rd row for 18 ins or length desired, finishing with a row of dc.

ROSETTES: 
With contrasting color, ch 6, join, ch 7, dc in ring * ch 4, dc in ring rep from * 15 times.

2nd row:  4 dc with ch 4 between in each mesh.

3rd row:  With white, 3 dc with ch 4 between in each mesh.

Work a 2nd rosette, working the 1st 2 rows in white and last row in color. 

Sew 2 snaps to band and attach rosettes in position.
