Vintage 1934 Chic Crepe 2-Piece Suit Dress #477

Quick & easy to knit this charming, two-piece suit…stylish lines of classic design in lace pattern jacket & slim knit skirt…sophisticated & smart, season-spanning, wardrobe favorite…travel ready & perfect for any occasion!

SIZE:  16

MATERIALS:
Minerva Silver Crepe, Blouse: 10 balls White, 1 ball Black
Minerva Silver Crepe, Skirt:  12 balls Black
Pair #1 Straight Needles - 12”                  
#2 Circular Needle - 29”
15 Black Buttons                                         
Black Patent Leather Belt
Snap Fasteners                                          
Elastic

GAUGE: 
#1 Needle:  8 ½ sts = 1”:    
#2 Needle:  8 sts = 1”

BLOUSE:  BACK: 
With white & #1 needles cast on 92 sts.

1ST ROW:  * K 4, yo, rep from * across row, end k 4.

2ND ROW:  P incl yo sts of prev row, then k 1 row, p 1 row, k 2 rows, * p 1 row, k 1 row, p 1 row, k 2 rows, rep from & for patt. 

[YO sts of 1st row are dropped on last row of work to form lace stripe.] 

[Stretch work so that dropped sts will run to 1st row.] 

Rep 5 patt rows 35 more times to underarm, now bind off 4 sts at beg of each of next 2 rows [always drop 5th st, which is yo st of 1st row off needle when binding off & dec], then dec 1 st at beg & end of every other row 6 times.

Work 11 patts [55 rows] even, then bind off 4 sts at beg of next 10 rows for slanting shoulders [20 sts for each shoulder], then bind off rem sts for back of neck.

RIGHT FRONT: 
Cast on 56 sts. 

Work patt even same as back rep patt 37 times to underarm, then bind off 7 sts at underarm, then dec 1 st every other row for armhole 7 times. 

When armhole meas same as back, bind off 6 sts, at front edge, then bind off 4 sts at beg of each row 9 times [20 sts for slanting shoulder]. 

Work left front to corres.

SLEEVES: 
Cast on 32 sts for half of sleeve, work same as back for 5 patts.

Sl sts on st holder. 

Work another piece same, then put all 78 sts on one needle & cont patt, on first row work 39 sts, yo, work last 39 sts [79 sts]. 

Work 30 more patts [150 rows], then dec 1 st at beg of each row until 6 sts rem, bind off. 

Work other sleeve to corres.

CUFFS: 
With white cast on 66 sts. 

K 1 row, * p 1 row, k 1 row, p 1 row, k 2 rows, rep from * 8 times, then p 1 row, k 1 row, p 1 row, join black yarn & k 1 row, p 1 row, for 3 ¼” for facing. 

Sew sleeve seams & attach cuffs with opening at back

COLLAR: 
With white cast on 100 sts & work same as cuff. 

Sew shoulder seams; sew sleeves in place. 

Attach collar with black facing for turn-over as shown in photo.

FINISHING: 
With white crochet ¾” band for under lap on left front & with black work 1 row sc on right front, make buttonholes as follows:  sc up first 2 patts from lower edge of front, * ch 6, sk 1 patt of front, work 9 sc across next 3 patts, rep from * to neck. 

Sew buttons in place on left front & sew 2 buttons on each cuff. 

Fasten cuffs with snap fasteners. 

Use black patent leather belt & black buttons.

SKIRT: 
With circular needle & black cast on 390 sts, join [be careful not to twist sts], k 10” even.

On next row dec by k every 16th & 17th st tog, k 4” even.

On next row dec by k every 15th & 16th st tog, k 4” even.

Next row dec by k every 11th & 12th st tog, k 8” even.

Next row dec by k every 9th & 10th st tog, k 3” even.

On next row dec by k every 6th & 7th st tog, k 3” even or desired length.

Work beading or casing at top of skirt. 

Work 2 rows sc around bottom of skirt, sk every 7th st on first row.
