Vintage 1930s Lace Two-Piece Knit Dress with Short Sleeves #122

A charming two-piece creation.  The lace, short sleeved top is just the thing to replace the silk blouse of your suit on coolish days.

SIZE:  16

MATERIALS: 
Skirt:  12 ¾ oz balls Blue Crepe Floss
Blouse:  6 ¾ oz balls Blue Crepe Floss
1 circular needle 3 mm                  
1 pair bone needles 4 mm
1 pair steel needles 2 ¼ mm

GAUGE: 
7 Sts = 1”

SKIRT: 
With circular needle, cast on 360 sts, join [being careful not to twist sts]. 

K plain for 7”. 

On the next row, k every 35th & 36th sts tog. 

K 3” even. 

Dec 10 sts in this manner every 3” [having 1 less st bet decs] until skirt meas 25”.

On next row k every 29th & 30th sts tog. 

K I” even. 

Cont dec 10 sts in one rnd every inch until 230 sts rem. 

K I” or desired length.  Bind off.

Sc around bottom 3 rows & 6 times around top. 

On inside of crocheted band at top make beading for elastic by ch 8 sts, catching at top edge, ch 6, catch at bottom edge & rep around skirt.

BLOUSE:  Pattern:  
Row 1:   K 4, * y o, k 1, y o, k 2 tog, k 1, k 2 tog, rep from *, ending k 4.

Row 2 & all even rows:  K 4, p across, ending k 4.

Row 3:  K 4, * y o, k 3, y o, k 3 tog, rep from *, ending k 4.

Row 5:  K 4, * k 2 tog, k 1, k 2 tog, y o, k 1, y o, rep from *, ending k 4.

Row 7:  K 4, * k 3 tog, y o, k 3, y o, rep from *, ending k 4

BACK: 
With # 2 ¼ needles, cast on 120 sts. 

Work ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 4”, inc 1 st both ends of needle on last row.

Change to # 4 needles & work lace patt on these 122 sts until back meas 9” from top of ribbing [or desired length to underarm]. 

Bind off 6 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st at both ends of next 6 knit rows, being sure to keep patt straight. 

Work even for 5”.

Bind off 7 sts at beg of next 8 rows. 

Bind off rem sts for back of neck.

FRONT: 
Work same as back to underarm. 

Bind off 6 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st at both ends of next 6 knit rows.

Next k row:  Knit 28 sts in patt, put rem 70 sts on holder. 

Cont working patt on these 28 sts for 5”. 

Bind off 7 sts on armhole edge at beg of next 4 rows. 

Sl 70 sts onto needle, tie in yarn & work in patt for 3”. 

Bind off 42 sts on neck edge & cont working rem 28 sts to correspond with right shoulder.

SLEEVES: 
On # 2 ¼ needles, cast on 72 sts. 

Work ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 1”, inc 1 st at both ends of needle on last row.

Change to # 4 needles, work in patt for 1”. 

Dec 1 st both ends of work every k row until 28 sts rem.  Bind off.

Sc 2 rows around neck & down opening, making 3 lps for buttons.
