Vintage Ring of Roses Doily

A clever woman very quickly & easily will crochet this exquisite doily…which will become a personal favorite to keep or gift to that special person!

MATERIALS:
J & P Coats Big Ball Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, Art #A104, Size 100, 2 balls White
#15 MiIwards Steel Crochet Hook

MEASUREMENT:  
15” diameter

CENTER:  
Ch 5.  Join with sl st to form ring.
1ST RND:  16 Sc in ring.  Join with sl st to 1st sc.

2ND RND:  Ch 5, * sk 1 sc, dc in next sc, ch 2.  Rep from * around.  Join to 3rd ch of ch-5 [8 sps].

3RD RND:  In each sp around make sc, hdc, dc, hdc & sc.

4TH RND:  Sl st in base of next sc, * ch 3, sl st in base of 1st sc on next petal.  Rep from * around.  Join.
5TH RND:  In each lp around make sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc & sc.  Join by making sl st at base of 1st sc.

6TH RND:  Work as for 4th rnd, making ch-5 lps [instead of ch-3].

7TH RND:  In each lp around make sc, hdc, 5 dc, hdc & sc.

8TH THRU 13TH RNDS:  Rep 6th & 7th rnds alternately, making 2 additional chs on lps on each lp rnd, & 2 additional dcs on petals on each petal rnd [there are ch-11 lps on 12th rnd & 11 dc on 13th rnd].

14TH RND:  Sl st to 2nd dc of first petal, sc in same place as last sl st, * [ch 6, sk 3 dc, sc in next dc] twice; ch 6, sc in 2nd dc of next petal.  Rep from * around, end with ch 3, dc in 1st sc [24 lps].

15TH RND:  * Ch 7, sc in next lp.  Rep from * around, end with ch 3, tr in dc.

16TH & 17TH RNDS:  * Ch 7, sc in next lp.  Rep from * around, end with ch 3, tr in tr.

18TH RND:  * Ch 8, sc in next lp.  Rep from * around, end with ch 4, tr in tr.

19TH RND:  Sc in lp just formed, * ch 8, sc in next lp.  Rep from * around.  Join to 1st sc.

20TH RND:  Make 11 sc in each lp around [264 sc].  Join & break off.

21ST RND:  Ch 15, drop lp from hk, insert hk in center sc of any lp, draw dropped lp thru, * make 8 sc over bar of ch-15, ch 15, drop lp from hk &, working from left to right, insert hk in center sc of next lp, draw dropped lp thru.  Rep from * around, end with 8 sc over last ch-15, drop lp from hk, insert hk in 1st ch of starting ch, draw dropped lp thru, thus joining rnd.

22ND RND:  * 14 Sc in next sp, 13 sc in following sp.  Rep from * around (324 sc).  Join.

23RD RND:  Sc in same place as sl st, * ch 7, sk 3 sc, sc in next sc.  Rep from * around, end with ch 3, tr in first sc [81 lps].

24TH THRU 33RD RNDS:  * Ch 7, sc in next lp.  Rep from * around, end with ch 3, tr in tr.  At end of 33rd rnd, ch 7, sl st in tr.  Break off.

OUTER MOTIFS:  1ST MOTIF: 
Work as for Center until 20 rnds have been completed.

2ND MOTIF:  Work as for Center until 19 rnds have been completed.
20TH RND:  5 Sc in 1st lp, ch 4, sl st in center sc of any lp on 1st Motif, 7 sc over ch-4, 6 sc in same lp on 2nd Motif, 5 sc in next lp, ch 4, sl st in center sc of next lp on 1st Motif, 7 sc over ch-4, 6 sc in same lp on 2nd Motif, 11 sc in each rem lp around.  Join & break off.

Make 7 more motifs, joining as 2nd Motif was joined to 1st Motif, leave 7 lps free on inner edge & 13 lps free on outer edge.  Join last motif to 1st Motif.

Now work around inner edge of motifs as follows:
1ST RND:  Ch 13, drop lp from hk, insert hk in center sc of 2nd lp preceding join on any motif, draw dropped lp thru, * make 10 sc over ch 13; ch 9, drop lp from hk, work from left to right, insert hk in center sc of next lp, draw dropped lp thru, 5 sc over ch-9; ch 7, drop lp from hk, draw dropped lp thru center sc of next lp, 3 sc over ch-7; ch 9, drop lp from hk, draw dropped lp thru center sc of next lp, 5 sc over ch-9, ch 13, drop lp from hk, draw dropped lp thru center sc of next lp, 10 sc over ch-13; ch 19, drop lp from hk, draw dropped lp thru center sc of next lp, 8 sc over ch-19; ch 5, drop lp from hk, draw dropped lp thru center sc of 1st free lp on next motif, 9 sc over ch-5; 11 sc over prev ch-19; ch 13, drop lp from hk, draw dropped lp thru center sc of next lp.  Rep from * around, end with 11 sc over last ch-19.  Sl st in 1st ch of ch-13.

JOINING MOTIFS TO CENTER: 
Sc in 1st motif sp, sl st in any lp on Center, * 6 sc in same motif sp, sl st in next lp on Center, 2 sc in same motif sp, 4 sc in next motif sp, sl st in next lp on Center, 5 sc in same motif sp, sc in next motif sp, sl st in next lp on Center.  Rep from * around.  Join & break off.

EDGING: 
1ST RND:  Ch 15, drop lp from hk, draw dropped lp thru center sc of 2nd free sp, preceding joining on any motif, * [8 sc over ch, ch 15, drop lp from hk, draw dropped lp thru center sc of next lp] 11 times; 8 sc over last ch, ch 5, drop lp from hk, draw dropped lp thru 1st free lp on next motif, 8 sc over ch-5; ch 15, drop lp from hk, draw dropped lp thru center sc of next lp.  Rep from * around.  Join with sl st in first ch of ch-15 [108 sps].

2ND RND:  Make 15 sc in each sp around.  Join.

3RD RND:  Sl st to center sc of next lp, sc in same place as last sl st, * ch 6, sc in first sc of next sp, [ch 6, sk 4 sc, sc in next sc] 30 times; ch 6, sc in center sc of next 2 sps.  Rep from * around.  Join [32 lps across each scallop].

4TH RND:  Sl st to center of next lp, sc in same lp, * [ch 6, sc in next lp] 31 times; sc in 1st lp of next scallop.  Rep from * around.  Join.

5TY, 6TH & 7TH RNDS:  Work as for 4th rnd, having 1 lp less on each scallop on each rnd. 

8TH RND:  Sl st to center of next lp, sc in same lp, * [ch 6, sl st in 4th ch from hk--picot made--ch 2, sc in next lp] 27 times; sc in 1st lp on next scallop.  Rep from * around.  Join & break off.
