Vintage 1950s Two Stylish Pineapple Crochet Doilies

A skillful needlewoman will swiftly crochet these delightful doilies in an oval or a round…Delightful, additions to the discerning woman‘s decor!



Materials: 
Crochet Thread #30
#12 Steel Crochet Hook

MEASUREMENTS:
Oval doily measures approx 17” length; 
Round doily measures approx 10” across.

For larger piece use heavier thread & larger size crochet hook.

LONG DOILY: 
Ch 8, join with sl st in 1st st to form ring.

1ST RND:  Ch 3 (for dc), 23 dc in ring; join with sl st in 3rd ch of ch 3 first made.

2ND RND:   Ch 4 (for dc & ch 1), * dc in next dc, ch 1, rep from * around, join last ch 1 to 3rd  ch of ch 4 first made.

3RD RND:  Sl st over ch 1, ch 3 (for dc), dc over same ch, 2 dc over each ch 1 sp around, join to 3rd ch of ch 3 first made.

4TH RND:  Ch 3, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, rep from * around, join.

5TH RND:  Ch 3, dc in same place, * ch 2, sk 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * around, join.

6TH RND:  Sl st in dc & into ch 2, ch 3, dc over ch, ch 2, 2 dc over same ch, shell of (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) over each ch 2 around, join.

7TH RND:  To beg each of next 9 rnds, sl st to center of shell, (always ch 3 for first dc of shell) shell in each shell around, join.

8TH RND:  * Shell in shell, ch 2, rep from * around, join.

9TH RND:  * Shell in shell, ch 3, rep from * around, join.

10TH RND:  Shell in shell, ch 4, rep from around, join.

11TH RND:  Shell in shell, ch 4, (2 dc, ch 5, 2 dc) in center of next shell, ch 4, rep from * around, join.

12TH RND:  * Shell in shell, ch 4, 9 trc in next ch 5 sp, ch 4, rep from around, join. pineapples beg to form in this rnd.

13TH RND:  * Shell in shell, ch 3, trc in each of 9 trc with ch 1 bet each, ch 3, rep from * around.

14TH RND:  * Shell in shell, ch 3, sc in 1st ch 1 sp, (ch 3, sc in next sp) 7 times, ch 3, rep from * around.

15TH RND:  Same as prev rnd with 6 lps across each pineapple.

16TH RND:  * (2 Dc, ch 2) twice in center of shell, 2 dc in same shell, ch 5 lps across pineapple, ch 3, rep from * around. sl st across to 2nd sp.

Now finish 3 pineapples out separately.

Work as follows across three following pineapples.
1ST RND:  Shell in ch 2 sp of 1st shell, ch 3, * sc in ch-3 lp, 4 more lps across, ch 3, shell in shell, ch 2, shell in next ch-2 sp, ch 3.  Rep from * once, make 4 lps across last pineapple, ch 3, shell in shell, ch 3, turn.

2ND RND:  Shell in shell, ch 3, sc in ch-3 lp, * 3 lps across pineapple, ch 3, shell in shell, ch 1, shell in ch-2 sp, ch 1, shell in shell, ch 3, rep from * once, 3 lps across pineapple, ch 3, shell in shell, ch 3, turn.

3RD RND:  Shell in shell, * ch 3, sc in ch 3, 2 lps across, ch 3, shell in center 'of each 3 shells below with ch 2 bet, rep from * once, ch 3, sc in ch 3, 1 lp, shell in shell, ch 3, turn.

4TH RND:  Shell in shell, * ch 3, sc in ch lp, make 1 lp, ch 3, shell in shell, ch 4, shell in shell with ch 5 in center, ch 4, shell in shell, rep from * once, ch 3, 1 lp, ch 3, shell, ch 3, turn.

5TH RND:  * Shell in shell, ch 5, sc in ch 3 lp, ch 5, shell in shell, ch 4, 10 trc in ch 5 lp, ch 4, rep from * once, shell in shell, ch 5, sc in ch 3 lp, ch 5, shell in shell.  Cut thread.  Do not turn.

6TH RND:  Sk outside shell of pineapple, shell in next shell, * ch 3, trc in each of 10 trc with ch 1 bet each, ch 3,shell in shell, ch 3 (sk two ch-5 centers of pineapple below), shell in shell.  Rep from *, ch 3, turn.

7TH RND:  Shell in shell, * ch 3, 8 lps across pineapple, ch 3, shell in shell, * ch 1, shell in ch 3 sp, ch 1, shell in shell.  Rep from * to *, ch 3, turn.

8TH RND:  Same as prev rnd with 7 lps across pineapple & ch 2 bet center shells instead of ch 1.

9TH RND:  * Shell in shell, ch 3, 6 lps across pineapple, ch 31 shell in shell, ch 4, shell with center of ch 5, ch 4,rep from to *, ch 3, turn.

10TH RND:  Shell in shell, ch 3, 5 lps across pineapple, ch 3, shell, ch 4, * 11 trc in ch 5 lp, ch 4, rep from * to *, ch 3 to turn.

11TH RND:  * Shell in shell, ch 3, 4 lps across pineapple, ch 3, shell in shell, ch 3 *, trc in each of 11 trc with ch 1 bet each, ch 3, rep from * to turn.

12TH RND:  * Shell in shell, ch 3, 3 lps, ch 3, shell in shell, ch 3, * sc in ch 1 sp, 9 lps across pineapple, ch 3.  Rep from * to *, turn.

13TH RND:  Same as prev rnd with 2 lps on each of outside pineapples & 8 lps on center pineapple.

14TH RND:  Same as prev rnd with 1 lp on each of outside pineapples & 7 lps on center pineapple.

15TH RND:  * Shell in shell, ch 5, sc in last lp of pineapple, ch 5, shell in shell, * ch 4, 6 lps across, ch 4, rep from * to *.  Cut thread.  Turn.

16TH RND:  Shell in shell, ch 4, 5 lps across pineapple, ch 4, shell in shell, ch 3, turn.

Complete pineapple in this way, making ch 4 before & after lps each time.

Finish next 3 pineapples out separately & make other long end.

Then complete last group of 3 pineapples.

EDGE: 
1ST RND:  Join thread bet 2 shells at very tip of long end, shell in ch 1 sp, (ch 3, shell in turning ch of next shell) 4 times, * ch 5, dc in ch 2 sp of shell where pineapple started, sk 2 ch 5, dc in ch 2 sp of opposite shell, ch 5, * shell in turning ch, (ch 3, shell in turning ch) 4 times, rep from * to *, make 3 shells down next pineapple separated by ch 3, * * dc in top of ch 3 of first shell up next pineapple, (shell in turning ch, ch 3) 3 times, shell in ch 1 sp of pineapple tip, (ch 3, shell in next turning ch) 3 times.  Rep from * * twice for other 2 pineapples, dc in top first ch 3 of first shell up long side, ch 3, shell in turning ch, ch 3, shell in turning ch, rep from * to *, 5 shells in turning chs of next pineapple (separated by ch 3), rep from * to *, 3 shells up next pineapple, ch 3 & rep from beg for other side, join.

2ND RND:  Sl to center of shell, open shell (dc, ch 4 for p, dc) here, (ch 4, sc under ch 3, ch 4, open shell in next shell) 4 times, ch 5, sc in joining of last rnd, ch 5, 5 open shells down next pineapple & ch 5 over joining as before, open shell, ch 4, sc under ch 3, ch 4, open shell, ch 4, sc under ch 3, ch 5, * dc in dc of last rnd bet joining, p, (ch 3, sc under ch 3, ch 3, open shell in shell) 5 times, ch 3, sc under last ch 3, ch 3, sk one shell.

Rep from * twice.  Dc & p in 1st dc on long side, ch 5, sc under ch 3, ch 4, open shell in shell, & rep around same as other end.

ROUND DOILY: 
CENTER:  Make first 16 rows same as for Long Doily & finish each pineapple out separately.

EDGE: 
1ST RND:  Shell in ch 1 at tip of pineapple, (ch 3, shell in next turning ch) 3 times, dc in top of ch 3 of 1st shell up next pineapple, (shell in turning ch, ch 3) 3 times.
Rep from beg around.  Join with sl st to 1st shell.

2ND RND:  Sl to center of shell, * open shell in shell, (ch 4, sc under ch 3, ch 4, open shell in shell) twice, ch 4, sc under ch 3, ch 3, dc in dc bet pineapples, p over dc, ch 3, sc under ch 3, (ch 4, open shell in shell, ch 4, sc under lp) 3 times, ch 4, rep from around.
