Vintage 1944 Honeycomb Placemat & Runner Crochet Set

A clever woman very quickly & easily will crochet this exquisite table setting…which will become a personal favorite to keep or gift to that special person!

MATERIALS:
J & P Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 2 balls of White & 1 ball of any color are sufficient for 2 place mats [each about 12 ½” x 17”], & a runner [about 12 ½” x 27”].
#6 or #7 Steel Crochet Hook

MEASUREMENTS: 
Place Mats measure 12 ½“ x 17”
Runner measures 12 ½” x 27”

PLACE MAT:  With White, ch 144 to meas 16 ¼“.

1ST ROW:  Sc in 12th ch from hk, * ch 7, sk 3 ch, sc in next ch.  Rep from * across.  Ch 10, turn.

2ND ROW:  * Sc in center st of next ch-7 lp, ch 7.  Rep from * across, end with ch 7, sk 3 sts of turning chain, sc in next ch.  Ch 10, turn. 

Rep 2nd row until 30 rows in all are made.  Ch 7, turn.

NEXT ROW:  * Sc in center st of next ch 7 lp, ch 3.  Rep from * across, end with ch 3, sk 3 sts of turning ch, sc in next ch.  Break off.

BORDER: 
1ST RND:  Attach color in center ch st of any color, ch 1, work 3 sc in same place where thread was attached, sc in each ch & in each sc around, make 3 sc in each corner.  Join with sl st in 1st sc made.

2ND RND:  Sc in each sc around, make 3 sc in center sc of each corner.  Join & break off.

3RD RND:  Attach White in any corner sc, ch 1, in same place where thread was attached make sc, ch 7 & sc; * ch 7, sk 3 sc, sc in next sc.  Rep from * to next corner, in corner sc make sc, ch 7 & sc.  Cont thus around.  Join.

4TH RND:  Sl st in 3 ch corner lp, ** in corner lp make sc, ch 7 & sc; * ch 7, sc in center st of next ch-7 lp.  Rep from * to next corner lp.  Rep from ** around.  Join & break off.

5TH RND:  Attach color & work sl st in each ch st & in each sc of 4th rnd.  Break off.

BOW: 
With color make ch 40” long.

1ST ROW:  2nd ch from hk, sc in each ch across.  Ch 1, turn.

2ND ROW:  Sc in each sc across.  Break off. 

Make bow of this piece.

Pin mat out to meas.

Sew bow in place as illustrated.

RUNNER: 
With White, ch 100 to meas 11 ½“. 

Work same as Place mat until 68 rows are completed. 

Ch 7, turn & work last row of Place Mat.

Now work Border same as Border of Place Mat.

Make 2 Bows (make chs 30” long) & sew at each end of Runner.

Starch, pin out to meas & press.
