Vintage 1920s Lace Crochet Table Cloth

A clever needlewoman will quickly crochet this blithe and elegant table cloth…
perfect to adorn your table on any occasion!

SIZE: 
Approximately 61" x 81".

Materials:
J & P Coats or Clarks ONT Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, Size 30: Small Ball: J & P Coats - 60 balls of White, Ecru or Cream,
or 72 halls of any color or Clarks ONT - 95 balls of White, Ecru or Cream or 110 balls of any color,
or Big Ball: J & P Coats - 29 balls of White, Ecru or Cream, or 37 balls of any color
#10 Steel Crochet Hook

GAUGE: 
Motif meas 4 1/4" square.          

First Motif: 
Starting at center, ch 15.  Join with sl st to form ring.

1ST RND:  Ch 3, 31 dc in ring.  Join with sl st to top of ch-3.

2ND RND:  Ch 2, half dc in same place as sl st, half dc in each dc around.  Join with sl st in top of first half dc.

3RD RND:  Ch 3, 2 dc in each half dc around.  Join.

4TH RND:  Ch 3, dc in each dc around.  Join.

5TH RND:  Ch 4, trc in same place as sl st, 3 trc in same st, * ch 2, sk 3 dc, 5 trc in next dc.  Rep from * around (16 groups of 5 trc).  Join.

6TH RND:  Ch 4, holding back on hk last lp of each trc, make trc in each of next 4 trc, yo & draw thru all lps on hk (cluster made), * ch 6, make 5-trc cluster over 5 trc.  Rep from around.  Join to tip of first cluster.

7TH RND:  Ch 4, in tip of same cluster make 4 trc, ch 2, & 5 trc, * ch 5, trc in tip of next cluster, ch 5, in tip of next cluster make 5 trc, ch 2 & 5 trc.  Rep from * around.  Join.

8TH RND:  Ch 4, 4-trc cluster over next 4 trc, ch 25, 5-trc cluster over next 5 trc, * ch 13, sc in next trc, ch 13, sc in next ch-2 sp (bet 5-trc groups), ch 13, sc in next trc, ch 13, 5-trc cluster over next 5 trc, ch 25 & make 5-trc cluster over next 5 trc.  Rep from * around.  Join & break off.

SECOND MOTIF: 
Work as for First Motif until 7 rnds are completed.

8TH RND:  Ch 4, 4-trc cluster over next 4 trc, ch 12, sl st in ch-25 lp on First Motif, ch 12, 5-trc cluster over next 5 trc on Second Motif, ch 6, sl st in next lp on First Motif, ch 6, sc in next trc on Second Motif, ch 6, sl st in next lp on First Motif, ch 6, sc bet 5-trc groups on Second Motif, ch 6, sl st in next lp on First Motif, ch 6, sc in next trc on Second Motif, ch 6, sl st in next lp on First Motif, ch 6, 5-trc cluster over 5 trc on Second Motif, ch 12, sl st in ch-25 lp of First Motif, 5-trc cluster over next 5 trc on Second Motif.  Complete as for First Motif, No more joinings.

Make 14 rows of 19 motifs, joining adjacent sides as Second Motif was joined to First Motif (where 4 corners meet, join Third & Fourth Motifs to joining of First & Second Motifs).

EDGING: 
Attach thread to any corner lp In same lp make sc, hdc, 7 dc, ch 4, sl st in 4th ch from hk (picot), 7 dc, picot, 7 dc, picot, 7 dc, hdc & sc. 

In each lp around make sc, hdc, 7 dc, picot; 7 dc, hdc & sc, working each corner as previous corner was worked.  Join and break off.
