There's an ancient Chinese curse that goes, "May you live in interesting times..."

Well, times have sure been interesting lately.

Just a few hours before the Mandatory Evacuation closed on my barrier island, a friend & member of my church family heard of my plight.  She had an empty apartment on the mainland, which she offered to me with my much-loved dogs.  I rapidly tossed a change of clothes for myself in an over nighter & assembled a mass of items for the dogs.  The dogs had MUCH more to carry them through the next days than I!  Anyone who has traveled with animals knows that it is like packing for toddlers.

My church sister, Hattie, will ever remain here in my heart for her kindness.  We rode out the storm in a warm, dry place & did not lose a moment of power... with devastation & power outages all around us.

Here we still remain.  The island took a direct hit, but my home still stands with walls & roof intact.  Because I'm on a smaller island in the back bays between the big island & the mainland, we escaped the ocean surges.  However, the tidal flooding from 3 high tides in the bays "did us in" quite thoroughly.  Note to self, never buy another single story ranch house on a barrier island.

Everything inside the house was floating from room to room.  Outside, all the lovely mums, I had just planted in the front of the house, came to rest on top of the back deck.  No sense trying to replant, you know salt is murder on the roots.

As a life-long collector of many things, this storm has effectively forced me to down-size.  But as an obsessive, type A woman, who put most of her precious patterns in zip lock bags, before tossing them in cardboard boxes...95% of my vintage patterns have come through unscathed.

So now I am the proud possessor of an over-abundance of yarn, many patterns & no furniture.  Don't tell me that my priorities are not in order!

Now that I'm back on-line, I promise that my next post will have more free patterns for you to enjoy.  Right now I'm completely exhausted with cleaning & tossing out water-logged household items...did I also mention photographing & listing?  Yeesh!

Stay well...
